Jump To

Hope everyone had a nice weekend. I spent the weekend learning about a cool, cool tool, Subversion (SVN for short).

If any developers read this they will think I am lame because I have not been using what is called ‘configuration management’ for SevenOranges (until now). Configuration management programs are like the ultimate secretary for nerds, because they can keep track of all the changes made to a certain project and allow you to go back in time when you mess up. They also allow you to stay organized when working with others.

However, SVN is no ordinary secretary, she is hot, distractingly hot, and it’s going to be a pleasure working with her for the rest of SevenOranges’ life. (too far?)

Now, for what matters…new features! you may notice the little text box on the left column with the text ‘Jump To’ in it. This little sucker lets you type in the name of any person or project and press ENTER, what happens next is entirely expected. Note that the ‘Jump To’ field is auto-completing, so if you don’t know someone’s last name, just type their first, and you will get a helpful list.

Another new feature which is bound to take on a few upgrades is the SubNet feature (working title). In your profile you can now select a SubNet (ie USC, UCLA, CMU), and likewise you can search by subnet. This is merely a means to allow people to be found by something more specific than their zip code. Currently the ‘apply for your subnet to be added’ link is non-existent, but for now you can just wire me.

Cheers.

Welcome to the SevenOranges weblog, or just blog for all you hip cats. While the contents of this blog will primarily be reserved for SevenOranges related material, I make no guarantees.

The etymology of the blog's name is simple: Orange, the fruit appearing frequently on SevenOranges, and Juice, the most perverted, awesome sounding, verb/noun attached to ‘Orange’ to create a refreshing tasty drink, something I hope this blog will become analogous to.

To date, SevenOranges has 125 members and continues to grow daily.

Today marks something somewhat significant, but entirely transparent; SevenOranges' servers have been upgraded to Rails version 1.1.2 and Ruby 1.8.4 without a hitch. For those who are curious, Ruby and Rails come together to make Ruby on Rails, the fantastic framework I use to make SevenOranges.

That's all for this first post, cheers.
